Senior Pastor Mike Davidson
Carolyn and I grew up about 90 miles from one another in Michigan. While she spent her growing up years in the country on a dairy farm, I grew up in Kalamazoo. In God’s providence we met in church; love blossomed, and we married about a year later. We had the privilege of raising five children. Today they’re all grown with families of their own. We’re thrilled to have seven grandchildren.
Carolyn trusted Christ at the age of seven. She later graduated from Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College with a Batchelor degree in piano performance. I attended church as a bus kid, but did not trust the Lord until I was twenty-two. After graduating from Western Michigan University, I enrolled in Dallas Seminary where I majored in Old Testament studies. Following seminary, I pursued further graduate studies at Bob Jones University.
Over the years Carolyn and I have walked hand in hand as we’ve served the Lord together. Not only has Carolyn been able to use her musical gifts as a church pianist and choral instructor, but she has also been a great model and mentor for other wives we’ve had in the churches God gave us to serve in. The Lord blessed our twenty-eight years of pastoral ministry as I had the joy of leading three wonderful churches. For the last several years I’ve had the incredible privilege of traveling internationally in developing world countries, teaching and helping to mentor national men called to preach.
More recently, God has called us back into a local church ministry. I assumed pastoral responsibilities of CBC on December 16, 2018. Both my wife and I are excited to be in the metropolitan area of DC. Central Baptist Church is located on the line dividing Rockville and Gaithersburg. We look forward to ministering in our community, bringing the message of Christ crucified to meet the need of every soul. In times like these, we especially need the hope and strength Christ gives to those who trust in him.
Associate Pastor Matthew Arney
Matthew grew up in a Christian home and was saved at the age of five. Throughout his early years, he and his family moved frequently, but Matthew calls Colorado home. He was baptized in eighth grade and shortly thereafter surrendered his life to ministry while attending camp at “Wilds of the Rockies” in Kremling, Colorado. Matthew graduated from Ambassador Baptist College in 2006 with a B.A. in Pastoral Ministries and a B.A. in Bible. In 2012 he graduated from Maranatha Baptist University and Seminary with his Masters of Divinity. He was ordained for the ministry in 2020.
In 2012 the Lord led Matthew to Maryland where he met his wife Lizzy. They were married in June 2016. In 2020, the Lord led Matthew and his family to Central Baptist Church.
Matthew and Lizzy have two sons. Their oldest was born in April 2019. Their second was born in November of 2020.
